About
the Tribe |
| |
The
Tribe was founded in summer 2007 by owners Colin Stoner
and John Van Sittert and player Mindy White. The goal
of the ownership group is to provide an affordable, positive
and fun opportunity for women of all walks of life to
play the sport of tackle football.
The members of the Tribe range in age from 19 to 45 and
include women from all types of backgrounds and professions
who share a common goal - to play a sport traditionally
reserved only for men. These women generally have a vast
array of prior athletic experience, ranging from recreational
leagues to collegiate athletics, to professional sporting
endeavors.
The Tribe is a member of the Independent Women's Football
League ("IWFL"). The IWFL, a 501(c)(6) non-profit
Texas Corporation, is a full tackle women's football league
focused on creating a positive, safe and fun environment
for the women who play the game and the fans that support
them. The IWFL was founded in 2000 by a group of women
dedicated to making the sport a household name. There
are currently over 1000 women playing the sport for more
than 30 IWFL teams across North America and Canada. The
teams range from Southern California to Montreal and Oregon
to Southern Florida with consistent expansion into new
markets.
The Tribe will compete in the Midwest Division of the
IWFL against rival teams such as the Chicago Force, Minnesota
Vixen and Wisconsin Warriors. |
